POESIE dimenticate (e non)

IF…
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

Se riesci a conservare il controllo quando tutti intorno a te lo perdono e te ne fanno una colpa;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

Se riesci ad aver fiducia in te quando tutti ne dubitano, ma anche a tener conto del dubbio;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,

Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

a non sembrare troppo buono e a non parlare troppo da saggio;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;

Se riesci a sognare e a non fare del sogno il tuo padrone;
se riesci a pensare e a non fare del pensiero il tuo scopo;

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

Se riesci a far fronte al Trionfo e alla Rovina e trattare allo stesso modo quei due impostori;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

e piegarti a ricostruirle con strumenti logori;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

Se riesci a fare un mucchio di tutte le tue vincite e rischiarle in un colpo solo a testa e croce, e perdere e ricominciare di nuovo dal principio e non dire una parola sulla perdita;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,

if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;

Se non riesce a ferirti il nemico né l'amico più caro, se tutti contano per te, ma nessuno troppo;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Tua è la Terra e tutto ciò che è in essa, e, quel che è di più, sarai un Uomo, figlio mio!

(R. Kipling)

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.
So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers were girdled round:
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

But oh! that deep romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill athwart a cedarn cover!
A savage place! as holy and enchanted
As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her demon lover!
And from this chasm, with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this earth in fast thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced:
Amid whose swift half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher's flail:
And 'mid these dancing rocks at once and ever
It flung up momently the sacred river.
Five miles meandering with a mazy motion
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean:
And 'mid this tumult Kubla heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war!

The shadow of the dome of pleasure
Floated midway on the waves;
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device,
A sunny pleasure-dome with caves of ice!
A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw;
It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.
Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such a deep delight 'twould win me,
That with music loud and long,
I would build that dome in air,
That sunny dome! those caves of ice!
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry, Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle round him thrice,
And close your eyes with holy dread,
For he on honey-dew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise.

A custodire calde macchie verdi.
Oh!
Rimbalzavano pietre.
Poi le caverne vietate all’uomo raggiungeva
O, potessi fare in me rivivere
Il suo canto e l’armonia:
Così intensa sarebbe la delizia
Che sulla musica profonda e persistente
Costruirei nell’aria quel palazzo,
Quel palazzo nel sole! Quelle caverne di ghiaccio!
E chi l’udisse li vedrebbe là
E griderebbe: Guardate! Guardate!

The Daffodils
by William Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee:
A Poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

The Daffodils ( I Narcisi)
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
Erravo solo come una nuvola
That floats on high o’er vales and hill s , o’er vales
Che galleggia in alto sopra valli e colline,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
Quando all ’ improvviso vidi una folla,
A host , of golden daf fodils ;
Una moltitudine, di dorati narcisi ;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees ,
Accanto al lago, sotto gli alberi ,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Svolazzando e danzando nella brezza.
Continuous as the stars that shine
Continui come le stelle che ri splendono
And twinkle on the milky way,
E scintillano sulla via lattea,
They s tretched in never-ending line
Si stendevano in una linea senza fine
Along the margin of a bay:
Lungo il margine di una baia:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Diecimi la vidi con uno sguardo,
Tossing their heads in spright ly dance.
The waves beside them danced; but they
Out -did the sparkl ing waves in glee:
Sorpassavano le scintillanti onde in allegria:
A poet could not but be gay,
Un poeta non poteva che essere gaio,
In such a jocund company:
In tale gioconda compagnia:
I gazed - and gazed – but little thought
Guardavo fisso - guardavo fisso - ma poco pensavo
What wealth the show to me had brought:
Che ricchezza lo spettacolo mi aveva portato:
For of t , when on my couch I lie of t
Perché spesso, quando sul mio letto giaccio
In vacant or in pens ive mood,
Di distratto o di pensieroso umore,
They flash upon that inward eye
Essi balenano su quel l ’occhio interiore
Which is the bliss of solitude;
Che è la beatitudine della solitudine;
And then my heart with pleasure fills ,
And dances with the daffodils .
E balla con i narcisi .
