by William Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling leaves in glee:
A Poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed—and gazed—but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.
The Daffodils (
I Narcisi)
I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud
Erravo solo come una nuvolaThat floats on high o’er vales and hill s , o’er vales
Che galleggia in alto sopra valli e colline,When all at once I saw a crowd,
Quando all ’ improvviso vidi una folla,A host , of golden daf fodils ;
Una moltitudine, di dorati narcisi ;Beside the lake, beneath the trees ,
Accanto al lago, sotto gli alberi ,Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Svolazzando e danzando nella brezza.Continuous as the stars that shine
Continui come le stelle che ri splendonoAnd twinkle on the milky way,
E scintillano sulla via lattea,They s tretched in never-ending line
Si stendevano in una linea senza fineAlong the margin of a bay:
Lungo il margine di una baia:Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Diecimi la vidi con uno sguardo,Tossing their heads in spright ly dance.
Scuotendo le loro teste in un vivace ballo.The waves beside them danced; but they
Le onde accanto ad essi ballavano; ma essiOut -did the sparkl ing waves in glee:
Sorpassavano le scintillanti onde in allegria:A poet could not but be gay,
Un poeta non poteva che essere gaio,In such a jocund company:
In tale gioconda compagnia:I gazed - and gazed – but little thought
Guardavo fisso - guardavo fisso - ma poco pensavoWhat wealth the show to me had brought:
Che ricchezza lo spettacolo mi aveva portato:For of t , when on my couch I lie of t
Perché spesso, quando sul mio letto giaccioIn vacant or in pens ive mood,
Di distratto o di pensieroso umore,They flash upon that inward eye
Essi balenano su quel l ’occhio interioreWhich is the bliss of solitude;
Che è la beatitudine della solitudine;And then my heart with pleasure fills ,
E allora i l mio cuore si riempie di piacere,And dances with the daffodils .
E balla con i narcisi .
