From the bushes om the enemy front, a sudden fusillade of the musketry made the horses veer and exposed the isolated King to other, more dangerous attacks. Major A. Negri of Sanfront recognised the dangerous situation and, at the head of three squadrons of Carabinieri of the Royal Escort, he prompty intervened with an overwhelming charge, which ensured the safety of King Charles Albert.
